Prayer Gathering - TONIGHT!!!

The first 13 verses of Luke 11 consist of Jesus’ instructions on prayer. In other words, if you want to know how Jesus says to pray, read Luke 11:1-13. Though a host of implications can be drawn from this passage, I want to highlight one in particular: the last thing Jesus says in verse 13.

“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?”

In the context of communicating how any father would give good gifts to his child, Jesus says it is a no brainer that God – who isn’t just any father, but the GREATEST Father – would give the Holy Spirit. Translation for those who might be a little slow: You ask God for the Holy Spirit – YOU. WILL. RECEIVE. IT.

Thus, tonight (August 12th) I am calling for a corporate prayer gathering where we, God’s children, ask for our Father to send His Holy Spirit on us, equipping us to carry out His mission.

On August 19th at 6 PM sharp, members of The Church at West Franklin are being drafted to participate in a 15 week long Boot Camp. The purpose? To get us ready to chase away darkness with the light of the Gospel. We will be doing a lot of talking, training, equipping, instructing, dreaming, planning, etc. The plan is to be a unified, healthy army of Jesus followers who are trained to “take the hill.”

Do you know what we need – desperately – in order for this to be a success? The Holy Spirit.

How do you receive the Holy Spirit? Jesus would answer that with a question of His own:

“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?”

Bring the kids and let them be taken care of for an hour.

Then come and meet me in the sanctuary at 6 PM.

So often we have not because we ask not. Let’s not approach Boot Camp without asking for that which we are guaranteed to receive.
