Unless a Grain of Wheat Dies
April 06, 2015
I assure you: Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains by itself. But if it dies, it produces a large crop. John 12:24
Jesus said it would happen. A large crop cannot be produced unless seeds go into the ground and die. Unless death happens, life cannot really begin. But when death does happen - WATCH OUT! The harvest will be plentiful!
Over a year ago, West Franklin Baptist Church realized she wasn't impacting West Franklin or the world for Christ. There wasn't much, if any, fruit being produced. There certainly were no hints of a large crop.
What to do?
Do what most churches do and keep trying to do the same thing they have always done? Do what other churches do and try to maintain, choosing to ignore reality? Or, face reality head on, die to self, and do whatever is necessary so the kingdom of Christ can flourish in West Franklin?
Like a grain of wheat, West Franklin Baptist chose to go into the ground and die. She chose to let God do whatever He thought best so a large kingdom crop might be produced.
The result of that? Last Easter (2014), around 300 people attended. THIS Easter (2015), close to 650 attended.
The result of that? Several wanting to accept Christ; several more guests wanting information about the Church at West Franklin; and yet even more desiring church membership.
And we're just getting started!
What does this tell us?
1. If you are reading this and were a part of the group who chose to let West Franklin Baptist die in order to see God produce kingdom fruit - be encouraged. BE VERY ENCOURAGED! You are seeing God honor His word and bless your willingness to do what He said He would do! I, personally, thank you; but more than that, imagine the people who would be lost forever had you not decided to go into the ground and die! They thank you too!
2. If you are a part of the Church at West Franklin - GET READY! We are on the edge of seeing God do more than we could ask, imagine, or think.
3. If you are reading this and are a part of a dying/struggling congregation, learn from this body of believers and trust what Jesus says. Unless the grain of wheat dies, there will be no fruit.
Our great God and Savior Jesus WILL ALWAYS keep His Word and do what He says. What needs to die in and around you so that He can bring resurrected life?
