A Position on Traditional Marriage and Help for the Christian

Does Brentwood Baptist Church (BBC) have a statement of what we believe about traditional marriage, especially in light of the Supreme Court's recent decision on same-sex marriage?

Are there some helpful materials available that aid Christians in thinking through things from a biblical perspective?

First, let me steer you toward the website of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). Our Senior Pastor, Mike Glenn, has signed a document written by the President of the ERLC, Russell Moore. The statement is called "Here We Stand: An Evangelical Declaration of Marriage." You can read it here.

The ERLC has also assembled a plethora of articles to aid the Christian in their thinking through these issues. I encourage you to go here and read up on what several key biblical thinkers are saying.

Second, I encourage you to visit The Gospel Coalition website here. It too provides the Christian very helpful articles on how to best think through these difficult issues.

Third, to some extent, each of the campus pastors touched on the issue in their messages Sunday. Hear Mike Glenn's message here, Jay Strother's message here, and Aaron Bryant's message here.

Finally, if you haven't gotten your hands on David Platt's most recent book Counter-Culture, I strongly encourage you to read it - in particular chapters 6 and 7 on marriage and sexual morality.
